Yob - Atma

Most of you will probably be familiar with Yob after 2009's epic "The Great Cessation", but for those of you who haven't had the chance to check out the mighty trio's newest release "Atma", let me tell you it does not disappoint. Bringing forth the foulest stench from the deep sludgy riffs combining their talent for mixing the best of both stoner and doom metal with excellent instrumental ability.

Clean House by Godstopper

Toronto-based industrialized doom/psych group. Released a demo earlier this year, and have been attracting attention from the likes of Terrorizer and Hellbound so far. Interesting stuff!

Mühr's Shepard/ Blood EP seemed to go slightly overlooked when it was released early this year, however I assure you that this is no less worthy of you attention. These to tracks that make up Mühr's debut release are largly based on the more psychedelic side of stonerdom whilst still keeping things heavy. Kind of a bringing together of Conan's crushing weight and Ufomammut's drug fueled journeys to the other side.

There must be something in the water down in Atlanta, GA, not only producing some excellent doom outfits but also with the likes of Zoroaster and now new bloods Wizard Smoke adding progressive elements to their form of smogging sludge.

New record "The Speed of Smoke" is been given away for free by the band which is mighty generous. Third track Weakling is an early contender for doom song of the year.

Otis Reaper: Footprints in Dead Earth & Graveyard Sorcery ep's

Otis Reaper: Footprints in Dead Earth & Graveyard Sorcery ep's:

Hailing from the doomed wastelands of Tennessee, Otis Reaper plays hard rock and punk tinged cro-magnon metal harkening back to the days of yore. Sludgy, neanderthal doom riffs collide with nwobhm tinged melodies, thrashing drums and guttural, blackened vocals w/lyrics about intergalactic time travel, misanthropy, and alcohol.

Pombagira - Baron Citadel

Massively crushing droning sludge, a HUGE guitar tone that is no doubt down to the impressive collection of amps. Kind of reminds me of what Sunn O))) would sound like if they uped the tempo a bit and added a permanent drummer.

  1. Causeway Charred (08:32)
  2. Baron Citadel (08:18)
  3. Seals Of Grace (24:43)
  4. Corporeal Altar (29:04)

Throats were a UK grind/hardcore band who sadly broke up recently. In 2009 the band record a noise/drone track entitled Atlas, it really shows off the amount of versatility and musicianship each member had.

    1. Atlas (10:27)

This album delivers on all accounts but in some way that is so individual to Harvey Milk and cannot be emulated or copied. Real emotion is displayed on this record, through crushingly heavy riffs to painfully slow drones to a vocal delivery that will squeeze every last hope for out of you.

"Bristling with malevolence, Ramesses' crushing grooves induce a hypnotick lethargy: weighed down, beleaguered and enveloped by doom. While the percussion/guitar/bass/vokills set to work on your viscera, your head is forcibly plunged down the rabbit hole and drenched in heavy psychedelia."
